Haiti Project

When the devastating earthquake struck Haiti, the GYST began a water purification project for neighborhoods in Port Au Prince and surrounding villages. The generosity of our local donors was overwhelming and within two weeks of the quake we were in Port Au Prince training community leaders and conducting a workshop on the construction and use of solar powered ultraviolet water purifiers. Student GYST volunteers researched, built and tested a prototype UV water purifier in 2008. They are now in operation in villages along the Thailand/Burma border and in Haiti giving access to clean, safe water to hundreds of families. The Haiti pure water project will be ongoing, sustainable and, like our other endeavors, ultimately student driven.
